By train London to Paris, Aachen is usually a 2-leg journey. Getting to the heart of Aachen by train to Aachen from the UK could hardly be easier - and it can certainly be quicker than flying. The most direct route is to take Eurostar to Aachen and Brussels, from where it's an hour or so on a Thalys or ICE train to Aachen Central Station.


The whole journey takes as little as 4 hours. You could also take Euro star to Paris and catch a fast Thalys train to Aachen from there. This route takes a couple of hours longer - but then you don't have to do the journey all in one go. There are certainly plenty of reasons to stay a while in the French capital before moving on. The French know Aachen as Aix-la-Chapelle, a reference to its hot springs, in which visitors still come to bathe – more than 2,000 years after the Romans first did. The city is a pleasure to simply walk around, taking in the historical sights and enjoying its favorable location surrounded by woods and rolling countryside. After a short time here, you’ll understand why Aachen became a favorite place of the Emperor Charlemagne himself.
