Train London to Rotterdam


Rotterdam, the city of architecture. The port of Rotterdam is the largest in Europe. From 1962 to 2004, it was the world's busiest port; then it was superseded by Shanghai. Rotterdam is home to the world's biggest international port and a very systematic rail system which provides all the visitors with a wonderful facility of trains to Rotterdam, and the city has grown around the port and business it brings. Rotterdam was badly bombed in World War II, and has been rebuilt as a modern city; Rotterdam is an excellent place for shopoholics to shop until they drop! Rotterdam's oldest shopping centre is the Lijnbaan which contains all of the major high street chains, and smaller fashion boutiques, or visit the fashionable Beurstraverse Shopping centre for more clothes shops.

 

Rotterdam is a municipality and city in the Dutch province of South-Holland, situated in the west of The Netherlands and part of the Randstad. The municipality is the second largest in the country behind Amsterdam. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen contains Old Masters, Prints, Decorative Art and Modern Art from the middle Ages to the present day. Rotterdam is a city that especially gains a lot of charm when the sun is shining. The Randstad Rail line metro line E is a light rail link between Rotterdam Hofplein station and The Hague Den HaagCentraal. A tunnel is being built to connect the Randstad Rail line with Rotterdam Centraal. In 2010, Randstad Rail will be running its train to Rotterdam Centraal. In 2011 trains will continue to Slinge station. RandstadRail trains currently operate every 15 minutes during daytime. Visit the 600 foot tall Euro mast for excellent views over Rotterdam and the surrounding area. At the top of the mast is a restaurant, and a small museum, but visit the space cabin to experience being launched 30 foot higher! Super fast lifts take you to the top of the mast.

 

The Rotterdam Maritime Museum contains a history of the port of Rotterdam. The museum is in the centre of Rotterdam, and includes a history of ship building, nautical instruments, and model ships. Probably the most famous windmills in the Netherlands, Kinderdijk are a small village just outside Rotterdam. There are 19 windmills which pump water on the site. Delft is one of the most charming and pretty towns in the Netherlands. Wander alongside quiet tree lined canals, and admire the Gothic houses. Delft is famous for its hand painted blue and white pottery, visit the Delftware factory. Rotterdam’s Central Station is one of the major points on the Dutch railway network and services from here are good. The journey to Amsterdam takes about 1 hour and there are regular trains around six each hour throughout the day. There are a similar number of services to The Hague in 15 minutes and Utrecht in 45 minutes


Eurostar to Rotterdam operates direct high-speed train to Rotterdam and train London to Paris St Pancras International to Paris and Brussels Thalys then operates high-speed trains from Paris to Amsterdam and Paris trains to Rotterdam. The highly developed rail network is efficient and cheap, and connects all towns. Both intercity and local trains to Rotterdam run at least half-hourly on all principal routes. Rail and bus timetables are integrated, and there is a common fare structure throughout the country. Discounts are offered on Eurostar train to Rotterdam and some ferry routes. Rotterdam is a showcase of modern architecture and is home to numerous famous museums, theatres, international festivals, and a cosmopolitan range of shops. The city boasts a tremendous choice of restaurants and trendsetting clubs making it a swinging and cosmopolitan entertainment centre. It’s a must Visit.
